Code of Conduct
From the FODE Board and Directors
Deep Eddy, as a public swimming pool operated by the City of Austin, is open to all fee-paying, law-abiding residents and non-residents. The pool is staffed with lifeguards tasked with ensuring patrons’ safety, with a secondary responsibility to guide patrons regarding pool norms and civility.
The Friends of Deep Eddy organization (FODE) seeks all means to enhance the Deep Eddy experience. In an effort to reinforce the importance of civil behavior, FODE recently adopted a Code of Conduct summarizing the mission, principles, ethics and rules guiding the conduct of FODE members. We wish to express our thanks to Christina Flores for creating this Code. Those present at the May 9, 2024 annual meeting each signed a copy of the statement below. This statement is available for review and approval by additional FODE members by clicking this link, or at the pool front desk.
FODE Code of Conduct
The FODE mission is to thoughtfully conserve our historic pool and park to meet current needs while preserving the ability of future generations to enjoy it as well.
Principles:
We believe everyone should be able to participate in and enjoy swimming and water activities – whoever they are and whatever their background.
We believe that swimming and water activities are about fairness and equity, respect and dignity.
We want Deep Eddy pool to be a welcoming place for everyone at any level of swimming skill.
Code of Conduct:
Respect the rules of the pool in a manner that promotes public confidence. FODE members have a duty to report unacceptable behavior to Aquatics staff and/or FODE officers.
Respect park property, resources and staff. These are available to FODE members only as patrons. FODE membership affords no pool or park privileges.
FODE members must get prior approval from the president before soliciting donations on behalf of FODE or Deep Eddy pool. The FODE president and board reserve the right to review or decline the terms of any donation offers.
Disqualifications. A person may not serve as a FODE member if:
The person regularly violates pool rules and guidelines.
A credible public complaint has been filed with FODE officers against a person for bullying, sexual harassment, verbal abuse, assault, or for making false complaints against pool staff and patrons.
A year has elapsed with zero attendance of meetings and no phone or email contact.
The person chooses not to complete this annual code of conduct document.
Enforcement: the FODE officers will hold confidential meetings as needed to review code of conduct violations and will vote on disqualification action. Votes are final, and there will be no appeal process. Disqualified FODE members will be listed as ex-officio retired members and will be removed from FODE email communications. The FODE code of conduct is not affiliated with the City of Austin; removal from FODE does not mean removal from the pool.
