Grateful That Eddy Is Better Than Ever

By Paul Bardagjy, Friends of Deep Eddy President

On behalf of Deep Eddy swimmers and the Friends of Deep Eddy (FODE) organization I would like to thank PARD and Aquatics staff for the important improvements completed earlier this year. The new bulkhead wall looks great and could last for the pool’s second 100 years. The new light fixtures have transformed the site, keeping all areas of our park evenly lit, which is especially helpful for the staff that cleans and fills the pool at night. The pool itself looks fantastic, thanks to reliable feeds of fresh water from the recently-serviced well pumps and the new less-algae-prone lane lines. With the three wells flowing properly we expect to continue enjoying the crystal-clear blue water we’ve experienced this Spring.

In short, Deep Eddy has been transformed in 2024, and we will move into the summer season in great shape. In addition to the facilities updates, the Aquatics Department has never been stronger and is fully staffed thanks to competitive pay for the guards. This year FODE will continue enhancing Deep Eddy with landscape projects and volunteer opportunities. We are pleased with the updated web site, thanks to Tom Fornoff’s and Olivia Frierson’s design, and swimmers who have contributed articles about their experiences. The FODE organization exists to enable our community to help make Deep Eddy the best place possible.

FODE was organized 25 years ago to help protect the unique character and beauty of Deep Eddy for the present and future. FODE is 100% volunteer based, so we need the help of swimmers who are engaged and willing to help. Here are four ways you can get involved:

  • Come to the annual FODE meeting on Tuesday, May 7, 6 pm at Eilers Park. We’ll review the past year’s accomplishments, plans and goals for the coming year, and will elect board officers.

  • Share your stories about Deep Eddy swimming and recreational experiences for inclusion on our website blog by sending suggestions to tom@ytbranidng.com.

  • Volunteer on service days. Email me at bardagjy@mac.com and I’ll inform you when they come up.

  • Donate, if you can, to help fund improvements that keep our incredible pool and park looking their best.

Above all, enjoy your swims!

Thanks, Paul.
