Brainstorming About Deep Eddy’s Future
By Paul Bardagjy
We recently convened a Friends of Deep Eddy meeting to brainstorm what future improvements our constituents would like to see for our pool and Eilers Park. It’s been seventeen years since FODE led the historic renovation of the bathhouse, with many interim improvements such as new pumps and landscaping improvements. Inspired by a recent conceptual presentation of Deep Eddy improvements generated by UT architecture students, FODE leaders wanted to solicit input from FODE members regarding future directions for pool and park upgrades.
On November 13, 2024, twenty one FODE members met, with each participant invited to share ideas. The most frequently stated suggestions included enhancements to:
Parking and vehicle traffic
Accessibility
Water features
Flow of patrons into and around the park
Smaller cosmetic and usability projects
The group also discussed the importance of clarifying and upholding the mission and values of the pool, park and our city. We also discussed the need to plan in alignment with city staff, our city council representative, upcoming city bond measures, and nearby improvements to the hike and bike trail.
